You know, my experience as a sports writer has been a pretty good one. I have been places and met people that I will forever remember with a tender heart and a warm smile. East Texas is no exception. And although I did not realize it while I was there, my time as the sports editor at the Marshall News Messenger in Marshall, Texas, created some of my fondest memories. I recently wrote a column for American Football Monthly about a story told to me by Eddie Robinson. It was a humorous yarn about growing up decades earlier during simpler times with simpler conveniences.
