Page 4Coaching, Winning, Teaching =Success... Does it all come down to Winning. 100% true... mostly true..... or only a part of the story. You chose to be a football coach and in so doing, embraced an amazing, rewarding and often hugely challenging profession. You have to deal with one of the most complicated things on earth.........young men. Why didn’t you choose to do something easy like become a rocket engineer?
All you have to do is try to get dozens of individuals, each of whom, at any one time is going 60 different directions, thinking about dozens of different topics and basically has extraordinary hearing loss, to get into sync with doz - ens of others just like them. Winning and losing...... how about just getting through a practice?
Beyond that you only have to fulfill a couple of other obligations, like: plan your program, hire assis - tants, deal with administration, parents, scheduling, community, opponents, travel, training/weight room/conditioning, player’s well-being, rules-discipline, eligibility, gameplans, lineups, motivation, eval - uations, recruiting, media, your-own-life/family, Losing, Winning and lots,lots more! Well, if all of that sounds good, then you just might be a candidate to become a football coach.
I have known many of you and that number includes some great people. Coaches who love what they do and love teaching young men. Certainly not for the money. Not for the fame. Maybe for the gratifica - tion that comes from giving. As I said. some who are truly great people and they are the most important reason why football, in my opinion, is the best.
